BREAKING: Thunderstorm warning issued for Athabasca, Barrhead, Westlock counties

A thunderstorm warning has been issued for Athabasca, Barrhead, and Westlock counties as high winds push storms east from Whitecourt

Environment Canada has issued a thunderstorm warning for the counties of Athabasca, Barrhead, and Westlock in response to developing storms in Whitecourt.

Strong winds are expected to quickly push storms in the Whitecourt area to the east, with a number at at risk of becoming severe. Heavy wind gusts can damage buildings, fell trees, and blow large vehicles off the road.

Severe thunderstorms can bring large hail and torrential rainfall in addition to high winds.

Environment Canada is advising residents of all three counties to stay up to date with alerts and forecasts. To report severe weather, email [email protected], or tweet reports with the hashtag #ABstorm.
