The Boyle Chamber of Commerce needs a new president and vice-president by noon Feb. 27 or maybe dissolve.
BOYLE – The Boyle Chamber of Commerce needs a new president and vice-president by noon Thursday, or it may cease to exist.

“It is with a sense of urgency that the Village of Boyle and District Chamber of Commerce announce this call for an emergency election. At a very minimum, the chamber requires nominees for president and vice-president,” a Feb. 18 press release stated. “Without a new executive in place, with a clear direction forward and member participation, the chamber will have no choice but to dissolve operations.”

Emergency elections will take place at 12 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Village of Boyle Chamber office located in the municipal building.

Current Chamber president Thomas Martin is unable to continue with his role, explained secretary-treasurer Karen Keyes, and no one stepped up at the Feb. 13 annual general meeting.

“He does not want to continue. He will stay on until the meeting, obviously (but) not after that,” Keyes said. “He has other things that he has to be accountable for and just can't do it all.”

Martin and Keyes will be accepting nominations right up until the noon deadline with a vote to take place after, if needed.

“(People can) just call us and let us know that they're willing to let their name stand and preferably they'd be there,” said Keyes. “And then we will just do an emergency vote while we are there that day.”

If no one steps up, then the discussion at the meeting will be how to go about dissolving the organization.

“We'd have to look into that because there's no dissolution clause in it. So, we'd have to decide what that actually entails,” she explained.
