Athabasca RCMP recover stolen vehicle in Slave Lake

The Athabasca RCMP have charged a 30-year-old man from Edson with a variety of offences after he crashed a stolen truck into a grader in Slave Lake.

ATHABASCA – An Edson-area man will be spending Christmas in a cell after he allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle into a grader in the Slave Lake area.

In the early hours of Dec. 5, Athabasca RCMP officers responded to a commercial alarm at a local car dealership, where they discovered a customer’s vehicle had been stolen from the lot.

The Mounties were able to track the stolen vehicle through Wabasca, and into the Town of Slave Lake, where the driver of the vehicle collided. The man was arrested without further incident.

Caleb Howson, 30, faces charges for breaking and entering, mischief, theft of a truck, flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Howson was remanded into custody, and is scheduled to appear in the Athabasca Court of Justice on Jan. 13. His charges have not been proven in court.
