WESTLOCK – The 48-year-old Athabasca man who police say had roughly $45,000 worth of illegal weed and unstamped smokes in his home, has yet to enter a plea and will be back in court next month.
In Athabasca Provincial Court March 21, Kevin Paul Boudreau reserved his plea on charges of sell/transport/deliver tobacco products under 121.1(1) of the Criminal Code and intent to possesses/produce/sell/distribute illicit cannabis under 13(1) of the Cannabis Act. During a brief 60-second appearance, Judge Gordan Putnam agreed to set the case over to April 24, while Federal Crown prosecutor Erwin Schulz said that “initial disclosure” had been sent to Boudreau’s lawyer Jake Chadi March 7, “but maybe more is required.”
According to a Feb. 6 RCMP news release, Athabasca RCMP executed a search warrant Jan. 10 on a residence in Athabasca where they found approximately 38-pounds of illicit cannabis and 170 cartons of unstamped tobacco products.
In a previous interview, Athabasca RCMP Const. Kyle Hotchkiss said the seized cigarettes have an estimated street value of $25,000, while the illicit cannabis is worth approximately $20,000.
