WESTLOCK – Robin Benoit, Town of Westlock Operations Director, provided an update on the water situation in town as of Thursday, Dec. 5.
“We still have two areas in town on the edge of town that we're getting reports of taste and an smell issue,” said Benoit.
“We are in those areas flushing the lines again.”
Benoit explained that even in the same area of town, there are some people who have issues and others who have no issues, making the situation difficult to troubleshoot.
There are also some businesses that are experiencing some issues that Benoit’s department is working with to flush out their systems.
They are large water users and have complex water systems within their business, presenting another layer of complexity.
If anyone is experiencing problems with their water, they are asked to submit your concerns through the Westlock website.
The system helps to track and isolate issues by address.
The teams working on the problems can focus their energy on addressing the specific areas rather than attempting to address a larger area.
Benoit also stated that any issues with hamlets should also submit a concern through the same link so all challenges are tracked in detail and can be addressed.
Benoit and his team are working on resolving this multi-layer complex situation every day.
The input from residents is critical to resolving this challenge.
On Oct. 21 the Town of Westlock notified residents that they were investigating the water quality concerns of residents.
Thursday, Nov. 21 the Town of Westlock released new information regarding a complication on the water situation in Westlock with residents experiencing a strange smell and taste.
Water testing has occurred daily at the water treatment station and randomly around the region to ensure that Westlock’s water is within the safety standards of Alberta Environment.
