WESTLOCK – On June 6, at 11:35 a.m., Westlock RCMP received a report of a theft of a trailer full of safety equipment that had been parked near the Westlock Cemetery but was no longer there. The investigation led police to an area gas station where surveillance video was reviewed, and the suspect was observed exiting a stolen truck and purchasing items from the store.

As the investigation continued police were able to identify a residence where the suspect frequented. Officers attended the residence and spoke to the tenant who advised that he had not seen the suspect recently and did not know where the suspect or the stolen truck were currently. As officers were having this discussion with the tenant, they observed the suspect exit a building and subsequently arrested the suspect. During the search of the suspect police located just under four grams of suspected methamphetamine. Officers also located and seized a truck that had been stolen from the Dapp area which was attached to the trailer that had been stolen from Westlock.

Samuel Arthur Edward Lebeau, 29, of Westlock, was charged with possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of stolen property over $5,000, and possession of methamphetamine.

A judicial interim release hearing was conducted where Lebeau did not speak to bail and was remanded in custody until his first court appearance at the Alberta Court of Justice in Westlock on June 12, where the matter was put over until his next appearance on July 24.
