WESTLOCK – The Westlock library staff came up with a fantastic April Fool’s Day prank.
“We are all on strike as of April first,” said Jamie Budzinski from the Westlock Library.
A sign was posted that the staff was on strike that informed patrons as they entered the library.
Staff were scattered throughout the library, reading their books.
Each staff member had found a cozy spot, some with blankets, and had settled in to read for the day.
Each of the staff members had signs.
The signs read ‘Shhhhhh Reading’ and ‘On Strike, use self-checkout please’.
Other signs read ‘Out of Order’ and ‘My Book Missed Me’.
Nobody who came into the library said anything about the strike to the staff.
But the group hadn’t had enough fun with their genius strike.
A notice was posted on Facebook that because of the strike the Westlock Library would be offering library book deliveries by drone.
The drone deliveries would be happening later this year.
With commentary that the launch would likely be April 1, 2026.
People commented to staff that drone delivery was a good idea and others fell for the prank.
Michele Arts came up with the drone idea and Michelle Hartman suggested the strike plan.
April Fools Day falls on April 1 in most countries around the world according to Brittanica.com.
The name came from customs of pranking people with practical jokes on the day.
Where the day originated is unknown and not documented according to Brittanica.com.
There were festivals in the 1500s that had similar activities, but they were not associated with April 1.
Common jokes played include loosen saltshaker lids, untied shoelaces, and sending people on foolish errands or wild goose chases.
