WESTLOCK – Westlock residents can expect brand-new waste and organic waste bins as the town changes service providers, but town officials say service levels will remain unchanged.
The current waste and organic waste bins are being replaced in the Town of Westlock during the week of March 24-28. Prairie Waste Solutions, the new service provider, will make the bin replacements happen.
“We're really looking forward to working with a new waste provider for the community,” said Simone Wiley, Town of Westlock CAO. “We expect no difference or change in the level of service. Residents should see no difference whatsoever in their weekly collection.”
The old bins can be left on the street for collection after the March 26 and March 27 garbage pickup dates.
Prairie Waste Solutions starts garbage collection on April 2 and April 3, and there are no changes to scheduled garbage pick-up days for residents.
Wiley said the change in provider came through a request for proposal where Prairie Waste Solutions submitted the most cost-effective bid.
The household waste collection is a weekly pickup on Wednesdays, while organic waste collection is Thursdays, also weekly April through November. Organics collection moves to a monthly pick up on the third Thursday of the month from December through March.
Westlock officials ask residents to have bins out by 7 a.m. on scheduled days to ensure collection is not missed.
Prairie Waste Solutions is equipped with cameras for service verification.
Their phone number is 780-772-4743, extension 3, or they can be contacted by email at [email protected].
GFL, which is contracted by the province, will still collect recycling materials in Westlock. Blue bag recycling pickup is scheduled for Thursdays.
