Westlock County rollover stuck due to mud and steep road shoulder

A week after the incident the rollover is still sitting in the ditch

WESTLOCK - Wet weather and soft gravel roads may have contributed to a semi-truck and trailer rollover earlier this month north of Westlock.

The incident occurred on April 7 along Range Road 20, just north of the intersection where Highway 661 meets Highway 776. Following a quick snowmelt and a period of significant rainfall, road conditions in the area had become muddy and unstable.

The semi-truck, hauling a van trailer, was travelling along the route frequently used by vehicles heading to and from the Dapp Power Plant. An anonymous source told the Westlock News that the semi had rolled down the steep shoulder and become stuck in the mud.

The road was resurfaced in 2024, and some drivers have reported that it has become more difficult to pass oncoming trucks, particularly in sections where the passable area is narrower and the shoulders are sharply sloped.

While emergency crews were able to remove the semi-truck from the ditch, the trailer remains on its side more than a week later, as of April 15.

No injuries were reported.
