Following a public hearing with no objects to the proposed development, council unanimously gave second and third reading to an amendment to redistrict of a portion of a section of land near Clyde.

WESTLOCK – There were no objections at a public hearing on March 26 to rezone land in Westlock County from agriculture to highway commercial to allow for a combined veterinary clinic and boarding clinic.

After the public hearing, during Westlock County council’s regular meeting, council unanimously gave second and third reading to an amendment to redistrict a portion of a section of land near Clyde. The landowner can now apply for a development permit and go through the safety code construction process to begin construction.

“The proposed facility will provide a value-added service to the community,” Kathleen Deshoux, senior planning and development officer for the county, told council in her report.

This aligns with the county’s strategic plan allowing for a broader range of services to attract and retain families in the county and encourage economic development, she added.

Stone Ridge Veterinary Services, in their application to council, only requested a portion of the land to be rezoned. In their application they said they are building a veterinary clinic with boarding kennels on land just off Highway 18 and along Range Road 235 near Clyde.
