St. Mary boys b'ball team wins 1A North Central ranking tournament

Sharks defeat CCRS Stingerz 69-46 in championship final

WESTLOCK — The St. Mary Sharks senior boys' basketball team have clinched a spot at zone championships after winning the North Central 1A ranking tournament on Feb. 16-17 at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre.

The Sharks defeated the Canadian Covenant Reformed School (CCRS) Stingerz in the championship final on Feb. 17 by a score of 69-46.

Prior to the final, the Sharks also defeated Swan Hills in their opening match by a score of 77-37 and New Sarepta by a score of 65-50.

After a slow start to the season, senior boys coach Ty Snell said the Sharks have been playing really good basketball lately, having won their last six consecutive games.

"The boys have been working really ard so it's been great to watch them have a lot of success over this stretch," Snell said.

The Sharks now have a couple weeks off to prepare for the 1A Zone Championships on March 8-9, which will also be held at the Westlock Rotary Spirit Centre.
