The RCMP’s Emergency Response Team was called out to a rural residence northeast of Westlock Friday after a report of shots being fired.
Westlock RCMP were called out to the residence after they got a 911 call complaint of family violence; while en route, the got a further report that shots were fired, according to an RCMP news release.
Officers arrived on scene and secured the area. The victim and her children went to a neighbour’s residence, while the suspect went back into his home.
The RCMP attempted to contact the individual via cellphone and loudspeaker, but he did not respond.
The Emergency Response Team from Edmonton was advised of the situation and called in because of concerns for the safety of the family and the officers involved.
Police entered the home in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 23 and arrested the suspect without incident.
Westlock RCMP continue to investigate the incident, and say that charges are pending.
