Severe thunderstorm watch in effect for Athabasca, Barrhead and Westlock

Increasing cloudiness brings 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms

ATHABASCA/BARRHEAD/WESTLOCK — Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the counties of Athabasca, Barrhead and Westlock, as well as much of northern Alberta.

The alert states there will be increasing cloudiness starting early this afternoon, with a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms continuing into the late evening. There is also a risk of a severe thunderstorm producing nickel-sized hail and strong wind gusts.

The weather tomorrow, June 24, will be a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon and a possible thunderstorm late in the afternoon.
