Westlock RCMP are investigating a July 17 collision between a southbound SUV on 100th Avenue and pickup truck heading west on Highway 18 (100th Street) — both drivers have told police the light was green.

WESTLOCK – Westlock RCMP continue to investigate a Monday afternoon two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 100th Street and 100th Avenue as both drivers claim the light was green.

Westlock RCMP Detachment acting commander Cpl. Riley Sutherland said that just before 2 p.m., July 17, they were alerted by an ambulance crew who had happened upon a collision between a southbound SUV on 100th Avenue and pickup truck heading west on Highway 18 (100th Street) — Sutherland said there was one person in the SUV, while the truck had at least one child as a passenger in addition to the driver.

“We’re still following up with witnesses to determine who had the green light … obviously it wasn’t green for both of them at the same time and both parties believe it was,” said Sutherland July 19.

She said there were no serious injuries and after their investigation concludes, one of the drivers may face a ticket if it’s determined they went through the red light.

“There were no other factors at play following our initial investigation,” she said, adding that traffic re-opened at the intersection within an hour.
