Team Measures from Barrhead claimed the championship title.

WESTLOCK – The Westlock Ladies Bonspiel returned for its second year on Feb. 22, drawing 12 teams to the ice. This year’s event saw Team Measures from Barrhead claim the championship title.

The Westlock Ladies Bonspiel is focused on bringing new individuals out from everywhere to see the facility, come to Westlock, and get into curling, said Ryan Craig, General Manager of the Westlock Curling Club.

“We are so happy to see the growth of the game with women all over Alberta, and Canada,” said Craig. “Proud to say that this bonspiel saw growth this year, and we expect more to come.”

The theme this year was “Beach Party” and the format of the bonspiel had one game of regular curling, followed by two games decided on luck of the draw.

“Winners were decided based on random factors such as colour of clothing, rocks in/out of play, among other things,” said Craig.

The event also saw strong sponsorship support from the local community.

“Businesses around Westlock and the area provided us with a great amount of prizes and donations,” said Craig. “Every single player who played in the Spiel walked away with a prize.”
