WESTLOCK – A couple of alleged bad tenants who were evicted are accused of setting a trap that injured an RCMP officer.

On Aug. 22, Westlock RCMP had received a report of a break and enter into a home where tenants had been previously evicted and have been repeatedly breaking back in. When approaching the door, an officer stepped on a nail that was surreptitiously protruding under a mat, say police.

Two suspects were found in the home and arrested. A female suspect in the residence was also injured by the nail prior to police arrival.

Cody John King, 40, has been charged with break and enter, mischief, two counts of setting a trap likely to cause harm and assault of a peace officer.

Break and enter charges are pending against a woman from Westlock and her name won’t be provided until charges are sworn, say police.

The two were released from custody with court dates in the future.

The officer and the suspect injured by the trap will recover from their injuries.
