WESTLOCK — The Soul Sisters Memorial Foundation held their annual fundraiser Nelly’s Project, a fundraiser for mental health and suicide awareness, at the Westlock and District Memorial Hall on Oct. 5. This year’s theme was an East Coast Kitchen Party! and featured live and silent auctions, MC Danny Hooper, a dinner and entertainment by the Edmonton-based Derina Harvey Band, a Celtic rock group, who are the 2024 East Coast Music Award winner for Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year. During the event, several attendees became honorary Newfoundlanders and participated in a traditional “screech-in”, a ceremony performed on non-Newfoundlanders involving a shot of screech, a short recitation, and the kissing of a cod.
