CLYDE – Concerns that people are living in RVs in the village prompted council to revise a bylaw forcing people to get permits to stay in an RV for only up to 14 days.

The bylaw officer needed clarity on the Community Standards Bylaw after the village had concerns about people trying to live in RVs in the village.

“They [bylaw officers] went through the Community Standards Bylaw and made some recommendations,” Chief Administrative Officer Jaye Parent told council during their regular meeting on Jan. 13.

Coun. Alex Strembesky suggested council implement a permit system where people would apply at the village to park their RV in town for a specified amount of time. He said the permit would assist bylaw officers.

“It stops people from abusing it,” he said.

Council discussed the length of time the permit should allow. They tossed around 48 hours, two weeks, or a month.

Mayor Charis Aguirre said she liked the idea of a permit but not 48 hours.

Deputy Mayor Alma Cruise Irwin said two weeks wasn’t an unreasonable amount of time.

Council unanimously gave first, second and third reading to the revisions of the bylaw stipulating that a permit must be obtained in advance from village administration to stay in an RV in the village up to 14 days.

“We can test it out for a year and whoever is on council next time can see if it’s all good,” said Aguirre.
