CLYDE – The Village of Clyde council passed its 2025 interim operating and budgets during their regular meeting on Dec. 9.
The operating budget has a revenue of $1.896 million with expenses of $1.893 million. The capital budget has a revenue of $655,638 and expenses of $655,638.
“You will see that the budget balances,” said Chief Administrative Officer Jaye Parrent.
There is an operating budget surplus of $2,920. Included in the capital budget are funds to pave 51st Street and the purchase of a new mower.
Council agreed they don’t want to borrow so they prioritized the essential projects and deferred others for another year, including the paving of 47th Street and purchasing a new truck for the village’s public works department.
“The truck we have is in rough shape and it is smaller than what we need for the village but it is lower mileage and we did do some work on the front-end last year,” said Parrent.
Coun. Alex Strembesky said council needs to make sure the truck will last another year.
Parrent said the truck doesn’t leave the village often and is mostly used to go to Westlock and back, and sometimes to the city. She added that the truck is expected to last another year.
There are no proposed increases for residents’ utility rates.
Staff salaries are expected to increase by 1.9 per cent.
The budgets are expected to be amended in the spring once the village receives the school and senior’s foundation requisitions and the assessments are done, said Parrent.
The interim budget is required by the Municipal Government Act to allow the village to operate effective Jan. 1, 2025. It also allows the village to put out requests for proposals for projects and to receive submissions in advance of the spring construction season.
