BREAKING: Man arrested following stabbing in Westlock County

A man has been arrested following a stabbing in Westlock County Friday afternoon.

WESTLOCK – A man has been arrested following a stabbing in Westlock County Friday afternoon.

Westlock RCMP say they responded at about 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 23 to a report of a stabbing at a home off Highway 44 near Township Road 603 in Westlock County.  When they arrived, they found an individual who had been stabbed and required medical attention.

After the stabbing, the suspect fled to a wooded area in the county. Westlock RCMP, along with Barrhead RCMP, Morinville RCMP, Police Dog Services, and resources from the Emergency Response Team searched for him.

Police also issued an Alberta Emergency Alert telling people not to open their door to strangers or pick up any hitchhikers.

“Public safety is a shared responsibility in these moments of crisis," said Cpl. Patrick Lambert. “The Westlock RCMP and Eastern Alberta District appreciate the public response to PIPA messages, dedication and support towards a safe community.” 

Criminal charges against the accused haven’t been sworn before the Alberta Court of Justice yet.

RCMP arrested the suspect around 7 p.m. without incident.

He was identified as the adult relative of the victim. The victim was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
