BREAKING: House fire in Westlock under investigation

House fire in Westlock shocks residents.

At approximately 6 a.m. on April 23, a house fire broke out on 107th Street in Westlock. The abandoned home was quickly engulfed in flames by the time fire services arrived on the scene. The first floor had collapsed, leaving the fire fighters unable to enter the building.

Stuart Koflick, Fire Chief of the Town of Westlock Fire & Rescue Department says, that the building at the time was not occupied and that "no firefighters were injured at the scene and no occupants were at the building."

Much of the landscape was also burnt in the process. As for the properties surrounding the home, only minor damage was sustained to the siding on one property while the rest were in good condition.

Koflick credits his crew for their quick action and protection of the surrounding areas.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
