WESTLOCK – “It was a rather brazen break and enter,” Crown Prosecutor Brett Grierson told the court after Daylin David Young pleaded guilty to breaking into Westlock Ford and trying to shut off the alarm system.

Young, 31, from Edmonton, appeared by CCTV in Westlock Court of Justice Aug. 14 from the Edmonton Remand Centre and pleaded guilty to theft of a vehicle, break and enter to commit theft, mischief, and breaching his curfew.

Court heard that RCMP were contacted after an alarm company was notified that someone was inside of Westlock Ford on March 15.

According to agreed facts in a joint submission by the Crown and defence lawyer Mark Jordan, before Young left in a stolen vehicle, he had rammed a new parked truck, hit a bay wall, and drove through a fence causing at least $10,000 in damages.

A few hours later Edmonton Police Service arrested Young after he was tracked by a GPS that had been installed on the stolen truck.

Judge Gordon Putnam sentenced Young to 150 days in jail. He was given 150 days credit for time served while on remand since his arrest.
