Spring is here, and with it comes the start of the camping season. If you're a camper in Alberta or planning to visit the province, you have so many options for camping sites to choose from. While that's a total blessing, it's also a curse because it can be hard to pick when you have many excellent options. We've rounded up a few unique and wonderful camping spots for you to consider. This might narrow your list down a little bit.
Cattle Ranch
Located in the heart of the Foothills, this campground is as unique as can be. If you decide to camp here, you'll be sleeping on a working cattle ranch about a 10-minute drive off Highway 1. The place is incredibly serene; you might not see another person during your stay! The large camping spots offer beautiful views, and you can enjoy biking, boating, hiking, horseback riding, a lake, a creek, and more. You'll be about 40 minutes from Canmore, an hour from Banff, and 40 minutes from Downtown Calgary. Could you ask for a better location?
On top of that, there are cows! If you're wondering what that means, here's a note from the management: "Our cows are tame, but not house pets, especially when they have their calves nearby! They'll be curious but then go back to munching on grass." So, what are you waiting for? Book your summer stay now!
The Secret Sanctuary
The Secret Sanctuary is a relaxing retreat in Westerose, Alberta. The place is the definition of serenity, offering unique cabin accommodations and gorgeous campsites for you to book. Though be warned, the camping is tent-only. All of the sites are private and surrounded by lush forests. There is a compost toilet, wash station, and potable water refill stations for campers. This is the definition of becoming one with nature, and we're willing to bet you'll never want to return to everyday life. There's a fairy path through the woods, a communal campfire and games area, and a huge bonfire every weekend. On top of that, there are five friendly llamas (yes, you read that right), a beach, Pigeon Lake just 10 minutes away, and Battle Lake just seven minutes away. You will have endless activities and nature-loving to keep you busy, and you will fall in love with this peaceful place.
Go Hard Ranch
Go Hard Ranch is a perfect destination for RVers looking to experience the great outdoors. The site offers RV campsites fully equipped with water, electric and sewage hookups. It's located near the Chip Lake Recreation Area, which has many activities, including fishing, boating, and hiking. There are also many trails for mountain bikers and hikers, with stunning views of the lake and surrounding area. Moreover, you can enjoy nearby attractions such as the Whitecourt Mountain Bike Park, Rock Lake Provincial Park, and more. You won't believe how gorgeous this place is, with sprawling prairies on all sides and the lovely ranch experience that's just so "Alberta."
These are just a few of the unique camping sites you can find in Alberta. Whether you're looking for a quiet retreat or an adventure-packed vacation, Alberta has something for everyone. Just remember to plan ahead and book your spot early to avoid disappointment. Happy camping!
