Jean Lorraine Proft

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Jean Lorraine Proft passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, surrounded by her family. Jean was a beloved wife of 60 years to her husband Fred Proft.

Jean is survived by her three children: Paris Proft (Shelly), Mark Proft (Laurena Anderson) and Melody Proft - Nolin

She also leaves behind her five grandchildren: Ashley Nolin, Haley Nolin, Carter Proft (Stephanie), Kirsten Proft, and Jory Proft, who brought her absolute joy. Jean adored her sweet great-grandchildren, Campbell and Sawyer Proft.

Jean is also survived by her sisters: June Gerling (Ed), Margie Wagner, Mary Pederson (Gordon), sisters-in-law Betty Cayford, Diane Cayford, Edie Proft, Adeline Warehime, Irene Yarham, Rose Wittmeier (Ron) Jean was predeceased by her brothers: Chuck, Bill and Howie Cayford, as well as her beloved mother, Maude Cayford and father Charlie Cayford. Along with her brother in laws Bert Proft, Harry and sister-in-law Carol and Gisela and Leonard Oswald and her mother-in-law Gisela.

Jean dedicated over 30 years of her life as the Recreation Director for the town of Barrhead. Her hard work and dedication made her a pillar of the community. She was known for being an amazing listener and treating everyone with kindness and respect. Jean’s colleagues have nothing but beautiful things to say about her, many of them who say that she was like their second mother, who they felt comfortable to ask her anything without judgement and with complete care and compassion.

Outside of her professional life, Jean had a passion for sports. She played softball for many years and was a great teammate, always displaying a positive attitude and a love for life. Curling was also a significant part of Jean’s life, and she enjoyed participating in the sport for many years.

Jean spent many hours of her life driving the Boys to hockey, and her daughter to figure skating along with many other sports. Jean dedicated her time for her kids, no matter what it was she would be there for them without question or hesitation. Jean also loved to garden, always growing the largest garden. Every year it seemed to be bigger and bigger.

Jean also adored her grandchildren, she was the most loving and caring grandma anyone could ever have. Jean taught them so many skills and so many life lessons. She had the most compassion for them and the grandkids will always cherish their time with her and always feel her in their hearts.

Jean Lorraine Proft will be remembered as a cherished and loved lady by many people. Her kindness, care, and motherly nature touched the lives of those around her, making her a truly special soul.

A Memorial Service for Jean will be held on Saturday June 1, at 11:00 am at the Barrhead Catholic Church. Luncheon to follow in the church hall.
