OLSON, Roy Walter (Ole)

January 23, 1924 - April 3, 2020

On April 3rd, 2020 Roy Olson passed away at Westlock Continuing Care at the age of 96.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Hilma Olson, wife Ellen, infant son Patrick, son Jerry and grandsons Shawn Roy and Jeffrey. His siblings Ella,
Esther, Andrew, Karl, and John.

Roy leaves to mourn his passing, daughters Linda (Ervin) Wanke, Brenda (John) Podolski and Marie (Peggy) Gerow, 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Roy was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and grew up in Glaslyn, Saskatchewan. He proudly served in the Canadian Army during World War 2 and Korea. Roy loved all sports, he boxed and played baseball while in the army and afterwards. After leaving the army Roy operated a dairy farm in Carstairs, farmed in North Pine and purchased a farm in the Dapp area where he lived until he retired.  Roy loved horses, he trained, bred and showed Welsh ponies with his daughter Brenda.  In his retirement years, he adopted the name Ole Olson and wrote and performed his unique Scandinavian humor in many jamborees. At this time, he met his special friend Beatrice. She sang and he performed his poetry at many functions. Roy and Beatrice shared their lives until illness forced them apart. Roy’s remaining 5 years were spent in Westlock Continuing Care where he received excellent care until he passed away.  We are grateful for the love and care they gave our (father) Patriarch. Roy lived a life well lived and will be sadly missed by family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Donations gratefully accepted to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta or Westlock Continuing Care Centre.
