MAJORIE LILY NORRIS

On October 2, 2024, Marjorie Lily Norris (nee Nelms) died, having reached the age of 96 years. Marjorie was born in London, England, on June 17, 1928. In the early years of World War II, at the age of 11, Marjorie's education was interrupted, as she was evacuated to Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England. Showing her rebellious spirit, she ran back to London with a friend, only to be caught and returned! After the immediate danger had passed, Marjorie returned to London and continued her Council school education.

Jobs in her early life included those of chambermadid, ticket-taker at a fairground and circus, and switchboard operator and receptionist for a number of companies in London. Marjorie was a talented stage actress with the Abbey Players in Westminster, London, during the late 1950's and early 1960's. A highlight of this time in her life was attending a live Beatles concert!

On December 31, 1970, in London, she married Philip Spencer Norris, who, at that time, was living in Canada. After having been granted a visa, she moved to Canada in 1971 to join him. They lived for a time in Calgary until moving to a new home in Mystery Lake, Alberta, where they spent many happy years enjoying nature at their very own private nature preserve. Marjorie described this period as "the most wonderful and fulfilling time of my life." Eventually, they moved to Barrhead, Alberta, where Marjoei spent the rest of her days following the death of Philip in 2006. Marjorie enjoyed listening to opera, classical music and the Big Band sound of the 40's, 50's and 60's. She was a fervent fan of cricket, tennis and Blue Jays baseball. Above all, she enjoyed nature, especially birds and wildflowers.

Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Philip, her parents, Ivy Victoria Nelms and James Nelms, as well as her step-son, Louis Norris.

She is survived by her step-son, Philip, step-grandsons Michael (Gina) and Timothy, and step-granddaughter Angela (John).

Sincere thanks to all who cared for Marjorie during her later years.
