LEYH, LYLE FREDRICK
April 2, 1924 – September 15, 2023
Lyle (Bud) was born in Plunkett Saskatchewan on April 2 to Mike and Helen Leyh and he was raised a farm boy. He always joked that he was the biggest April Fools joke, he was born a day late.
Lyle and Agnes married in 1948 and farmed in the Plunkett area for a couple years before operating a Massey Harris business in Plunkett. In 1954 they lost their business to a fire, and they returned to the Leyh family farm to farm with his parents. Lyle is proud of the fact that he helped his Dad raise two oxen that they used daily on the farm and as a demonstration team at the Saskatoon Pioneer Exhibition. Lyle and his Dad loved their horses and farm animals.
Lyle, Agnes and their three children moved to Westlock in 1962 where Lyle managed the Co-op Implements (CCIL) dealership. In 1968 Lyle changed jobs and began managing the Pembina UFA Co-op Bulk Gas.
As Lyle was an only child, he never had a brother or sister relationship, but Doug Leigh, cousin, Leslie Farago, brother-in-law and friend Darrel Meyers were “lifelong brothers” to him.
Lyle will likely be remembered around town for driving his little white Suzuki truck with his faithful companion “Sandy” sitting proudly in the passenger seat.
After retirement Lyle took up his hobby of woodworking, he built amazing furniture for his children and grandkids. In 2004 after living 42 years in the same Westlock home, Mom and Dad moved to Spruce Grove –Stony Plain where they made numerous friends. The love of his life, Agnes, passed in 2008 and life took a turn for him. Life was very lonely for him for he missed her dearly, but he soon learned to cook and care for a home and did a wonderful job. He moved back to Westlock, living in his own home until age 92 when he moved to Pembina Lodge and finally at age 97 into WCCC.
David recalls the three trips he and Dad made to Nova Scotia and how much Dad enjoyed each time. Dad’s ancestry began in Nova Scotia and for Dad it felt like home. The two of them took numerous trips together throughout western Canada.
Leslie cherishes all the trips Mom and Dad made to B.C. for family visits and the various camping vacations they took together in Alberta and B.C.
Brenda was fortunate to have Mom and Dad join them for trips to Hawaii, Florida, and Las Vegas as well as many family camping vacations in Sask. and Alberta.
But most of all his family is so grateful for having Lyle for a father and grandfather, the caring, loving, and gentle man that he was. He shared in all parts of our young and adult years. We couldn’t have asked for a better Dad and Grandpa.
He leaves to mourn his passing, Brenda and son-in-law Garry and their sons, Wade (Nicole) and Scott (Elena); son Leslie and daughter-in-law Ruth and their three children, Aaron (Emily), Jennifer (Paul), Jocelyn (Jarvis) and 12 great-grandchildren; also, his youngest son David of Westlock. He is predeceased by his wife, Agnes (Farago) and his parents, Odin (Mike) and Helen Leyh.
Respecting his wishes, there will only be a private ceremony for immediate family. Cremation has taken place and his final resting place will be at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Edmonton.
