As a member of Team Alberta at the Canada Winter Games in Nova Scotia, the Athabasca native won a bronze medal.

The talented Alberta athletes earned their prize with a 5-3 win over Team Ontario in the bronze medal game on Friday.

They went undefeated in the preliminary round, dropping Saskatchewan (4-0), New Brunswick (6-5) and Manitoba (7-1).

They beat New Brunswick again in the quarterfinal (3-2) before bowing out of the gold medal chase with a 5-4 overtime loss to Team Quebec.

Team Alberta has now earned a medal in the last six Canada Winter Games, dating back to 1991.

Back home in Athabasca, there was plenty of support for Kanzig, especially at Cheap Seats Sporting Goods, where he used to work. Staffers wore his jersey throughout the week and created a window display to show their support.

Kanzig plays AAA hockey with Fort Saskatchewan. His Western Hockey League rights belong to Chilliwack.
