BARRHEAD – The PowerSchool system used by school divisions through the province has been breached.
Pembina Hills School Division data was not compromised when the data breach occurred by hackers. Data is safe as of right now.
“We're not one of the ones that have been affected,” stated Brett Cooper, Superintendent of the Pembina Hills School Division.
“We are obviously monitoring it very closely.”
School divisions across the province that were compromised are dealing with the data breach in their own division according to Cooper.
Cooper stated that they have communicated it out to all of the staff to be mindful and watch for anything malicious or phishing type emails.
Phishing emails are sent in attempts to get access to passwords, personal identification information or credit cards.
They appear to be from a reputable source and often contain a link that will give the hacker access to information or systems used.
“Pembina Hills is safe for now. We will communicate out as soon as we are aware of any sort of data breach,” commented Cooper.
A data breach is when hackers have gained access to a protected system and gain data and confidential information on that system.
