WESTLOCK – A Saturday-evening traffic stop in Westlock escalated into a full-on police pursuit, with Edmonton Police Air Services tapped to help find the suspect, who was eventually arrested in Wabamun.

RCMP report that on Aug. 15 around 6 p.m., Westlock RCMP initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle towing a boat for a traffic related offence. During the stop the lone male driver of the vehicle fled, which led to the police pursuit. Local RCMP continued their chase south before it was called off in the Morinville RCMP Detachment area.

Eventually, Edmonton Police Air Services was called in and located the vehicle in Wabamun Provincial Park. Parkland County RCMP responded to the location and the driver was arrested and taken into custody.

RCMP say public safety was not at risk and no firearms were involved in the chase. The identity of the man, or what charges he faces has yet to be disclosed by police.
