ATHABASCA - First the roof and now the parking lot — there is a big makeover going on over at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre.
Now that spring has sprung and the work on the roof is complete, contractors are now resurfacing the facility's main parking lot, replacing sidewalks and adding new signage.
“Work to prepare the site started (April 19) and the project is expected to be finished by the end of May, weather permitting,” said an April 19 media release from Alberta Health Services (AHS).
The four-phase project will start with the area around the main entrance and access loop.
“The project also includes new concrete curbing and sidewalks, fresh crosswalk and line painting, improved emergency phone access and additional permanent signage around the property,” the release stated.
The hospital will remain open, including the emergency department, throughout construction and no change in services is expected. AHS thanks residents for their patience while the work is completed and asks users to be aware of new signs, flaggers and if any detours are recommended.
“Traffic control personnel will be on-site during the day to direct traffic to the most appropriate entrance,” said the AHS release. “Signage will also be in place to guide traffic and make the public aware of these temporary changes.”
