WESTLOCK – The Town of Westlock’s 2021 Light Up parade is just around the corner and here’s everything you need to know.
The reverse parade is slated to begin at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 on 100th Avenue and those wanting to enjoy the sights and sounds can enter on either the east or west side of the street. Because it is a reverse parade, floats will be stationary and participants will drive on either side of the floats.
Unlike past years, no candy will be thrown from floats this year, instead there will be a “candy checkpoint” where goodie bags will be handed out to families passing through.
“With it being a stationary parade and people being in their vehicles it’s not practical to throw candy,” said Town of Westlock development services director Krystle Fedoretz.
Roads will be closed in the area starting at 4:30 p.m. to prepare for the parade and all drivers are asked to remove their vehicles from 107th Street and 100th Avenue prior to the cutoff time. Parade floats will start on 107th Street before moving to 100th Avenue after getting organized.
To help reduce congested traffic and ensure everyone has a chance to enjoy parade, families with last names that start with A-M are asked to enter on the west side of 100th Avenue while those with last names starting with N-Z are asked to enter on the east side.
Staff will be present to help guide drivers through the parade.
“Just follow their direction and they will get you in and through,” said Fedoretz.
The parade will feature a mix of business floats, personal floats and a town float that will feature Mr. and Mrs. Clause at the end of the parade.
