You have resolved to read more books in 2025, but you don’t know what books to read. Thanks to Eunhye Cho, the manager of the St. Paul Municipal Library, we have a short list of suggestions to get you started.

  1. The Crash by Freida McFadden

Genre: Fiction – Psychological Thriller

Expected to be available in the library: Jan. 31

About: A pregnant woman finds herself stranded in rural Maine during a winter storm and takes shelter with a couple. Something isn’t right, and now she must get away.

This novel is a standalone by the same author as the three-book The Housemaid series which is being developed for a film by Lionsgate.

  1. Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yaros

Genre: Fiction – Young Adult – Fantasy – Romance

Expected to be available in the library: Jan. 31

About: This is the third of an expected five books in The Empyrean series, so you should read Fourth Wing and Iron Flame first before jumping into a battle, which will test Violet’s wits, luck and strength in her quest for the truth.

Amazon Prime Video is planning a TV adaptation but has not announced any timelines or cast members yet.

  1. Warriors: Changing Skies #1 – The Elders’ Quest by Erin Hunter

Genre: Children Ages 8 to 12 – Fiction – Fantasy – Animals

Expected to be available in the library: Jan. 14

About: “As Leafbare approaches, a new danger threatens the Clans. Twoleg construction has encroached on Clan territory, poisoning the stream and making prey especially scarce for SkyClan. Meanwhile, their leader, Leafstar, is struggling with a loss of vision while trying to maintain authority over a Clan that increasingly doubts her ability to lead.”

All the books in the many arcs of Warriors published since 2003 feature feral cats. With novellas, chapter books, and graphic novels to choose from it is a great series for younger readers to enjoy.

  1. Are You a Hungry Monster by Guilherme Karsten

Genre: Children’s Picture Books

Expected to be available in the library: Jan. 31

About: “This is a very interactive kids book about a monster who is creating a recipe for his snack. It’s got bit pictures and is highly interactive when you read it aloud,” said Cho. “It’s very fun, the kids will be laughing.”
