Flu shots are now available through Alberta Health Services and at pharmacies across the province as of Oct. 19. More than 1.4 million received the shot last year, but 8,500
still contracted the virus and 39 died as a result. This year, with COVID-19 presenting similar
respiratory symptoms as the flu, chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw has said
the more COVID-19 tests performed due to influenza symptoms can be avoided, the stronger the health system will be to support COVID-19 patients. Pictured, intrepid Athabasca Advocate
reporter Heather Stocking took a shot for the team at the Tipton’s Your Independent Grocer pharmacy Oct. 21 from pharmacist Rob Bownes. It was reportedly quick and painless. It is advised that anyone wanting a flu shot should call ahead to ensure they are in stock.
