WESTLOCK — Environment Canada has issued a heat warning today for all of Westlock County that’s expected to last until Friday.
Temperatures could reach up to 29 C during the day, and nighttime lows are expected to sit around 14 C.
Meteorologists advise residents and visitors to reschedule outdoor activities for cooler hours, take breaks from the heat in cooled indoor spaces, drink water and non-alcoholic, non-caffeinated beverages, and avoid leaving children or pets inside a closed vehicle.
“Pay particular attention to individuals that can experience earlier or more severe effects from heat including infants, children, seniors, and individuals with pre-existing lung, heart, kidney, nervous system, mental health or diabetic conditions, outdoor workers as well as those who are socially isolated,” Environment Canada wrote.
Symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion include body temperature, lack of sweat, fainting, and unconsciousness.
