Bringing in the New Year with a bang

Closing the chapter on 2020

BARRHEAD-About 100 vehicles crowded into the back half of the Barrhead Agrena parking lot on New Year's Eve to watch a 15-minute fireworks display sponsored by the Town of Barrhead in a highly abridged First Night celebration.

Typically the municipality hosts a night of free skating and crafts and games at the Agrena along with a toonie swim after a hot dog barbecue. However, due to the pandemic, the municipality pared down the event to an early 9 p.m. fireworks display overseen by the Barrhead Regional Fire Services. To adhere with public health restrictions attendees were asked to remain in their vehicles.
