A culvert washout on Highway 55 June 8 resulted in a significant chunk of the road going missing. Travellers heading east of Athabasca were turned around and rerouted as highway contractors EMCON had the highway blockaded east of Amber Valley by mid-afternoon and it currently remains in place. UPDATE: June 10 Noon, an EMCON representative said if all goes according to plan today, Highway 55 will reopen by late afternoon. Signs will be placed to notify the speed limit is now 80m km/h over the repaired section of the highway, as there will likely be a bump. The section will be repaved at a later date.
