Denver Nolan holds one of the pheasant chicks he helps his father Desmond Nolan raise. Desmond got into raising them a few years ago to help train hunting dogs, a hobby of his. Most get released into the wild and some are kept back for the training. The Nolans incubate the eggs before moving the chicks to a friend’s farm just south of Athabasca. Once they are bigger and have started developing the colourful plumage pheasants are known for, they are moved to a farm near Rochester before being set free.
