English rock band Strawbs will rock the Nancy Appleby Theatre in Athabasca on Thursday, Oct. 25.
The previously advertised date of Oct. 26 was incorrect.
The band was formed in 1964, and although they started out as a bluegrass group, they have evolved to play many other genres. Originally known as the Strawberry Hill Boys, they later shortened their name to Strawbs.
Their most famous song, Part of the Union, ranked number two on United Kingdom charts in 1973.
In 2006 the band released a four-disk box set titled A Taste of Strawbs.
The lead singer of the band is Dave Cousins.
“Dave is the Strawbs and has been throughout their history,” the band’s website reads.
After the lead singer took a break from the band for a few years in the ‘80s, he returned to carry on.
“Dave continues to lead the Strawbs from strength to strength, as well as handling a bewildering range of other projects,” the website states.
The band has two gold albums in the United States, and 30 weeks on Billboard charts.
They toured with Supertramp on their Crime of the Century tour, and have also hit the road with big name acts like the Eagles, Frank Zappa and Santana.
The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at Value Drug Mart, Whispering Hills Fuels, or by calling 780-525-2161, 780-424-2915 or 780-916-6871.
