University nuhelot’įne thaiyots’į nistameyimâkanak Blue Quills (UnBQ is currently seeking a Dean of Social Work, aligning with the vision, mission, and philosophy of the University. The Dean is responsible for organizing and directing program activities, supervising staff, maintaining program accreditation, and ensuring that the program is aligned with current NIAB and ACSW social work program standards. The Dean provides oversight for Diploma, Degree, and Master’s programs regarding curriculum development and delivery, transfer agreements, and ensuring that program elements are rooted within Indigenous knowledge systems. The Dean reports to the UnBQ Vice President Academic and guides program development through a local Program Advisory Committee.
Leadership responsibility for program oversight, coordination, and evaluation of the Program
Preparing reports, correspondence, and materials necessary to support effective and efficient program operations
Managing student admissions, student advising, teaching as required
Ensuring curriculum meets the Cultural Standards articulated by the Council of Elders
Facilitating program expenditures within approved budget categories and allocations
Engage in proposal writing and research activities when required
Orienting, directing, supervising and evaluating program personnel through the use of a collaborative management style,
Networking with other First Nations and public post-secondary institutions, and
Contributing to UnBQ organizational growth, sustainability, and well-being.
MSW Degree (or Master level in related discipline), preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate or registered in a doctorate program.
Social Worker (RSW) with the Alberta College of Social Workers
Have three years of experience in program management, administration, supervision
Possess excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
Demonstrate leadership qualities; mentoring, facilitating, decision-making, and delegation of responsibilities.
Strong organization, time-management, research, interpersonal and team skills.
Possess initiative, self-motivation, creativity and imagination.
Computer proficiency in MS Office/ Teams and Internet use
Valid class 5 drivers and ability to travel when needed
Preference will be given to candidates with extensive lived experience working with Indigenous Peoples, knowledge, language, and cultural practices.
