Great West Media is looking for an assistant editor/reporter to join our award-winning news team. The position will be based in St. Albert as a reporter for the St. Albert Gazette and assisting the editor for both the Gazette and its sister rural publication, Town and Country.
Who are we?
The Gazette covers the beautiful and desirable community of St. Albert, a city of 70,000 people directly adjoining the City of Edmonton. It boasts a thriving arts and cultural scene, excellent recreational opportunities with all the amenities of a city of 1.5 million people at your doorstep.
The Gazette is part of Great West Media, a family-owned and operated community newsmedia company serving more than 20 rural and suburban communities across Alberta in print and online.
Qualifications
Who are you?
- You understand writing for both digital and print platforms and are interested in drawing readers into a story
- You are able to keep readers up to date with the most recent breaking news using our digital platform
- You have a digital-first mindset, as the news doesn’t wait for the paper to get published
- You are a self-starter and naturally curious, who can easily generate story ideas
- You are innovative and are willing to think outside of the box and try new things
- You love telling stories and can use photography and video to support your writing
- You have a sharp eye for strong copy and a good knowledge of CP style
- You are organized, work well with others and are comfortable stepping into a leadership role when called on
- You have a driver’s licence and a vehicle
- You have enthusiasm and a positive attitude. A degree in journalism or communications is a bonus.
