On Monday afternoon, Calgary Police Service cancelled a dangerous person alert issued earlier in the day for Calgary and surrounding areas to the north including Airdrie.
“The Alberta Emergency Alert for the dangerous man armed with a firearm has been cancelled, as the suspect has been located deceased,” a 4:40 p.m. Dec. 30 update on the province’s alert website stated.
“The suspect's vehicle has also been located. There is no further risk to the public.”
Calgary police said that at approximately 3:40 p.m., "police received tips from the public in relation to the suspect’s vehicle being parked along a road in the Water Valley area. Upon arrival, police located the suspect near his vehicle deceased."
An Alberta Emergency Alert was issued Dec. 30 at 12:13 p.m. for Division 6 which extends north from Calgary to include Mountain View County and south of the city south past High River.
“There is a dangerous man armed with a firearm in the areas of northwest Calgary and Bearspaw,” the alert said.
The man is a suspect believed to be involved in the double homicide that occurred on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024 in the communities of Kincora and Tuscany.
Benedict Kaminski, 38, is a white male, six feet tall, with brown and grey hair wearing a grey, red and white shirt, driving a 2022 black Nissan Pathfinder with Alberta plate C L N 5 2 7 6, the alert said.
At approximately 9:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, the Calgary Homicide Unit responded to the 0 to 100 block of Kincora Grove N.W. for reports of a person in medical distress. Upon arrival, officers located a man in his 70s deceased.
As officers continued to investigate, a second victim, who is believed to be the deceased man’s daughter, a woman in her 30s, was located deceased in the 300 block of Tuscany Ridge Heights N.W., at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Dec. 29.
