The Crossfield man, Thijs Gordon Vogelzang, arrested in May on charges related to child pornography, sexual Interference and making child pornography will be going to trial in 2025. Vogelzang will be in Calgary court for his trial on June 16 to 20 of 2025, according to court records.

Vogelzang, a learning assistant at W. G. Murdoch school in Crossfield at the time of his arrest, was arrested on May 29, 2024. Vogelzang worked for Rocky View Schools for two years. Before working in Crossfield, Vogelzang worked for a year at W.H. Croxford in Airdrie.

After a complex 6-month long investigation, Airdrie Rural RCMP, in partnership with Airdrie RCMP Specialized Investigation Unit, laid charges in relation to a sexual interference case.

The Crossfield resident was soon identified by Rocky View Schools as an employee. Vogelzang was charged with sexual interference, possession of child pornography, and making child pornography.

"The safety and wellbeing of our students is at the centre of everything we do," said a statement from Rocky View Schools (RVS) at the time. "Our focus during this challenging situation is on ensuring our students have our caring support. School-based and divisional supports will be available for students [...]

"We also recognize the impact this has on all our staff who dedicate themselves every day to improving the lives of our students. Division staff are present at the schools and staff are encouraged to access RVS’ Employee Assistance Program for additional support.

"RVS takes these charges very seriously and will be working closely with schools to support them through this situation. We will be communicating this information shortly to the two school communities and to all RVS staff.
