RCMP working with Hate Crimes Coordinator after Nazi salutes on busy roadway north of Edmonton

The police are asking the public with any images of individuals holding anti-immigration signs and performing nazi salutes to contact the St. Albert RCMP detachment.

The St. Albert RCMP is working wih the Alberta RCMP Hate Crimes Coordinator after a group was photographed over the weekend anti-immigration signs and performing Nazi salutes. 

The group was photographed holding up signs reading "deport them all," and "Import 3rd world, welcome 3rd world." They also held up a black flag with the Celtic Cross and a red ensign flag, two symbols which the Canadian Anti-Hate Network has designated as hate symbols. One of the individuals held their hand up in a Nazi salute.  

In an emailed statement, the St. Albert RCMP said "On Jan. 25, 2025, at 11:45 a.m., St. Albert RCMP received a report of individuals demonstrating and holding up racially motivated signs on St. Albert Trail. Police immediately attended, identified and spoke to the three participants. No arrests were made at the time, and the group dispersed.

"The Alberta RCMP firmly believes that everyone should feel safe, and be treated with equality and respect. We are committed to ensuring everyone we serve can live in communities free from discrimination and bias, and we take any action that threatens the safety and security of others extremely seriously.

"The investigation into this incident is ongoing. St. Albert RCMP are liaising with various units including the Alberta RCMP Hate Crimes Coordinator."

The police are asking the public to send any images of the various signs and individuals during the incident to call the St. Albert RCMP at 780-458-7700
