VERMILION - The Alberta RCMP Roving Traffic Unit recently conducted a joint "High Volume Stop" project in the Vermilion area, which resulted in several traffic violations and fines.
The project took place from Sept. 15 to Sept. 20.
"This project culminated in 65 traffic violations being issued accounting for $32,000 in fines. Police executed 11 outstanding warrants, laid 28 criminal code charges, five of which were for driving while prohibited," according to information provided by RCMP.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of money believed to be the proceeds of crime, 48 grams of cocaine, 15 grams of methamphetamines, and two hand guns, one of which was allegedly stolen out of Ontario.
“While traffic safety is always a primary focus, we understand that criminals use our highways to transport illegal drugs, weapons, and money in their day to day activities,” says Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, with Alberta RCMP Media Group.
“Officers that are properly trained and equipped can have a profound impact on interdicting these criminals as they travel throughout the province.”
