Cochrane RCMP are reminding locals to properly follow firearm safety procedures after responding to a gun shot victim on Oct. 30.
At around 6:30 p.m., Cochrane RCMP responded to an incident in the area of Waiporous after a man made a distress call to 911 with what was believed to be a gun shot wound to the leg.
Upon their arrival on scene, the wound included a femoral arterial bleed, which caused the victim to quickly lose blood and consciousness.
The officers quickly applied two tourniquets to the leg of the victim and performed life-saving measures to prevent further trauma and shock.
The victim was airlifted to hospital.
An investigation by the RCMP revealed that the victim was hunting with a partner and there was an accidental discharge. No charges have been laid in this matter.
Due to the actions and medical intervention by RCMP officers, the male victim is currently in stable condition.
The Cochrane RCMP would like to remind citizens that firearm safety is very important. They ask that everyone to take the initiative and register in a firearms course prior to operating any firearms.
