Lac La Biche RCMP continue to search for suspects they say fled from police in a stolen vehicle on Thursday evening, a pursuit that started near Kikino and ended in the Hylo area, about 20 kilometres away.

The incident forced RCMP to issue an advisory to the public on Thursday night, saying there was a large police presence in the Hylo as they looked for three suspects.  A few hours later, RCMP issued an update saying that officers had left the area as it was believed the suspects were also no longer there.

On Friday morning, Cst. Guillaume Fortier, a member of the Lac La Biche RCMP detachment, told the Lac La Biche POST newsroom that one suspect had been arrested and was in custody, while two others remain at large.

He said all three were wanted on warrants pertaining to property crime offences.

The situation began when local RCMP were notified of a possible stolen vehicle in the Kikino area early Thursday night. A short time later, police patrolling the area spotted what they believed was a vehicle matching the report's description. After Mounties followed the vehicle for a short period of time through backroads between Kikino and Hylo, Fortier said, the vehicle came to a stop and three people ran into a wooded area near the residential hamlet of Hylo.

The one suspect now in custody, he said, was caught quickly.

Currently, Fortier said, police are monitoring information they receive about the individuals who were involved in the incident. He explained that the RCMP is looking for tips from the public, or  security camera footage that could help to find the suspects.  He urged members of the public to report any suspicious people or activity to police.
