Two Hinton residents are facing trafficking charges after RCMP seized more than $25,000 in drugs during a Nov. 20 traffic stop outside of town.
Hinton RCMP say the driver and passenger of the vehicle were arrested without incident.
The traffic stop led to the discovery and seizure of more than 1,000 grams of methamphetamine, 145 grams of cocaine and one litre of GHB – worth more than $25,000, say the police.
“Taking any drugs off the street has a positive effect on our community,” said Staff. Sgt Shiloh Fragomeni, Hinton RCMP’s detachment commander, in a media release.
“Making a seizure of this size puts a huge dent in the selling of these harmful substances and also has a positive ripple effect into the prevention of property crime, which is fuelled from the buying of drugs.”
As a result of the investigation, 43-year-old Rebecca Barnaby and 45-year-old Jamie LeBlanc were charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. Barnaby was also charged for failing comply with a release order.
LeBlanc was released on an appearance notice for Dec. 18 at Hinton court.
Barnaby was brought before a justice of the peace and was remanded in custody. She is scheduled to appear in Hinton court on Dec. 4.
Anyone with information about illegal activity regarding illicit drugs is asked to contact their local police or Crime Stoppers.
Fragomeni thanked the community of Hinton for reporting crimes such as thefts, suspicious persons and possible drug houses.
