BARRHEAD - The Town of Barrhead has extended McDonald's request to extend the service road closure along 49th Street between 59th Avenue and 61st until April 31.
Town of Barrhead councillors approved the request by McDonald's during its April 23 meeting.
Chief administrative officer Edward LeBlanc said the extension is needed to allow the fast-food franchise to complete the connection to municipal utilities.
"Talking to our utilities department, they believe [the developer] should be able to complete the project by the end of the month," he said.
It is the second extension councillors have authorized. At its March 27 meeting, the council approved a modified request from McDonald's for a maximum of a two-week closure starting April 1. Council then granted the franchise an extension until April 22 at its April 6 meeting.
Coun. Dausen Kluin asked what the delay was, noting when the new Home Hardware building was constructed in the same area, the time the road was closed was much shorter.
"What are they having trouble with?" he asked.
LeBlanc replied that the developer is having issues connecting to the storm line and water tie-ins.
"The sewer is connected, but not the storm line and water tie-ins," he said. Existing third-party lines are in the way, causing problems connecting to the utilities."
