Rich Valley Rodeo with Show and Shine Car Show July 28

Special interest events such as wild cow milking and a car show Rev-off to find the best top quality engine sound will draw the crowds down to Rich Valley on July 28 to a screaming good time.

Rich Valley has just completely re-done the arena and is ready to host their first big event.

“It’s going to be a good time for people to come out and see some cowboy events,” said Justin Potts, one of the Rodeo organizers.

The Rich Valley Rodeo starts at 1 p.m. on July 28 at the AG arena and wraps up between 5 and 6 p.m.

There are four challenging events that 12 teams will be participating in. Each team is made up of four people.

The first event is branding. These are timed events with scores applied to the team’s totals.

The second event is trailer loading. Teams draw two cows to sort out of the herd, chase those cows to the other end of the arena and then onto a stock trailer.

When all four cowboys are in the truck and sound the horn, their time is recorded.

The third event is team doctoring and the last event is wild cow milking. Team results on average will name a champion and well as a second-place runner-up.

There are prizes for Top Hand which is voted on by the contestants. The Top Horse is also named, voted on by the contestants.

Teams are coming from all across central Alberta from Athabasca to Bonnyville.

The Show and Shine Car Show is an event in itself. The 2023 event drew 70 vehicle treasures that were shown off and judged.

“We are expecting 80 entries this year,” stated Rod Shotts, president of the Rich Valley AG society and the car show organizer.

The show opens at 9 a.m. and registrations will be taken until 11 a.m.

There is a highly anticipated event at the car show – a signature exhaust rev-off. Drivers who think they have top quality engine sound can pay a fee and rev that baby as loud as they can.

“This is the third year, and it has been very popular,” remarked Shotts.

There are beer gardens, concessions and a Fire Truck that has interactive play for the kids.

There will be door prizes where people can vote on their favorite vehicle and can win Bluetooth speakers.

There will be live entertainment and O Canada sung by country singer Addy Watson.

Car show winners are announced at 1:30 pm with the show ending at 2 pm.
